Miracles Do Happen

Just this past weekend, we celebrated Miracle Mia's 2nd birthday. The family gathered for the first time to celebrate it, so it felt much like we were celebrating her first. A year ago, Miracle Mia was too "medically fragile" to enjoy a celebration, so we definitely made up for it this year! It was a very special day for all of us.

Mia received a wonderful gift from her Aunt, my sister. It was a beautiful stone plaque which read:

BELIEVE
Miracles happen to those
who Believe in them.

Those words speak so loudly to us and is felt deep within our hearts. Auntie Janice could not have given a more heartfelt gift. It is something which will be cherished forever.

Since Mia's premature birth, we've cherished and have welcomed each day as a miracle. We have witnessed a miracle blossom before our eyes. Mia is a reminder that miracles do happen!

Most of you have read Mia's American Idol story, and now we have greater news which we couldn't wait to share with all of you! We just got back from visiting Mia's surgeons who will possibly be performing her major airway reconstructive surgery. After a quick look at her airway in clinic, he was astonished to see a significant improvement! Before, the surgeon was certain Mia would need extensive surgery to improve her possibilities of breathing without a tracheostomy. Now, that possibility has been reduced to 25%! This is Incredible!!

As wonderful as it was to hear this news, Hugo and I knew this was what we were going to hear. We just knew it! A month ago, Mia began to whisper and make sound around her trach. This is "suppose" to be impossible with the current diagnosis of her airway. Mia is certainly proving the experts wrong.

This truly goes to show that as long as you Believe it can happen, it will. And in order for those miracles to happen, we must begin with doing what we can. Much like the incredible wisdom of Jim Rohn, who says:

"I have found in life that if you want a miracle you first need to do whatever it is you can do - if that's to plant, then plant; if it is to read, then read; if it is to change, then change; if it is to study, then study; if it is to work, then work; whatever you have to do. And then you will be well on your way of doing the labor that works miracles."

For the past months, we have worked everyday with Mia in instilling the desire to communicate and make sound, regardless of what the doctors have said is impossible. We were "doing the labor that works miracles." Our miracle has happened and we know we'll be blessed with many more as we continue to "work" towards them.

Today, Believe in miracles. Wake each morning with a new outlook on your life, knowing that each new day is a miracle in itself. Then do whatever is in your power to work towards the miracles you seek.

We are the creators of our lives, our destiny and even our miracles. Think of yourself as being the Artist. Enjoy painting the most amazing pictures.

Many Blessings....
